Leeds United are due to travel to Phil Parkinson’s Bolton Wanderers at the weekend hoping to go top of the Championship table.
You could forgive Bolton Wanderers for feeling a little distracted this week.
The Trotters are still licking their wounds after conceding a 93rd minute winner to the irrepressible Norwich City on Saturday and the club have since been dogged by reports of unpaid wages (BBC).
So there are certainly better times to be facing a Leeds United side who have a 100 per cent record since returning to action after the November international break.
But, speaking to Bolton News, manager Phil Parkinson has made some rather bold claims ahead of the weekend clash with Marcelo Bielsa’s side, perhaps buoyed by a characterful display in that 3-2 loss at Norwich.
“I think there’s a good chance (that we’ll get a result against Leeds),” said Parkinson, whose Bolton side have won one game in 17.
“We just have to keep doing what we’re doing. We have to work hard on that training ground, implement what we do on a Saturday or a Tuesday, and something will go for us.”
Leeds will obviously travel over the Pennines in great spirits and heavily favoured to return to West Yorkshire with another three point haul.
After the 4-1 collapse at West Brom, The Whites have shown plenty of grit and their ability to ‘win ugly’ was proven once again in the narrow 2-1 success at home to Queens Park Rangers on Saturday.
So Bielsa will be hoping to squash Parkinson’s confidence at the first opportunity.
