Everton reportedly wanted to hand Bobby Reid his Premier League chance last summer and the Bristol City attacker has since scored 19 Championship goals.

Is there a more improved player in the Championship this season than Bobby Reid?

The homegrown Bristol City talent forced his way into the Robins’ first-team last term as a gifted yet erratic central midfielder, but it is this campaign where Reid has finally shown just how effective he can be.

Pushed forward into an unfamiliar striking role by manager Lee Johnson, a move that Reid himself told the Guardian he was unsure of at the time, the 5ft 7ins pocket rocket has exploded into life. With just one game to go in the Championship campaign, Reid has 19 goals to his name and is only behind Matej Vydra of Derby County in the race for the Golden Boot.

So the £12 million price-tag put on Reid’s head, according to the Sun (29 April, page 60), looks quite reasonable in today’s transfer market even if he does have just a year left on his contract.

The Sun claims that Bournemouth are interested but, after a breakthrough season that no one saw coming, Everton should renew their interest one year on.

The Sunday People stated in August that Reid had caught the Toffees’ eye and, after a season in which he has scored more goals than in the rest of his career combined, now would be the perfect time to revisit that deal.

Reid is perhaps the closest thing Everton could find to Tim Cahill, the legendary attacking midfielder who joined from Millwall back in 2004 and quickly became a fan favourite for his ability to perfectly time runs into the box and be in the right place at the right time.

Reid, another instinctive goal-scorer honed in the second tier, shares one or two similarities.
