Blackpool manager’s Jordan Thompson claims could highlight Rangers’ mistake

Scottish Premiership giants Rangers released talented midfielder Jordan Thompson but he’s thriving in League One with Blackpool now.

Glasgow Rangers had their fingerprints all over Blackpool’s brilliant 3-0 win against Burton Albion on Saturday.

Ibrox loanee Joe Dodoo continued his excellent form with a fourth goal in three games for the Tangerines but it was Jordan Thompson who ran the show at Bloomfield Road.

After returning from international duty, the 21-year-old midfielder was back at his dynamic best, providing an assist and scoring his third goal of the season after a lung-busting run into the penalty area.

Thompson was released by Rangers in May after making just three first-team appearances for the Glasgow giants, but the Northern Irish starlet has come on leaps and bounds in the north west of England.

And, speaking to the Blackpool Gazette, manager Terry McPhillips clearly believes the sky is the limit.

“He’s a great lad and his discipline in the second half was superb,” McPhillips said of Thompson, who moved to Rangers in 2015 from Manchester United.

“He’s a hell of a player. I thought he started slowly but I think we’ve got some players who are getting better.”

Thompson has a long way to go before he can legitimately claim that Rangers were wrong to let him go after barely giving the youngster a chance to prove himself in the first-team. But if he continues this rapid rate of development, fans will be wondering if he is one that got away.
