Joe Dodoo scored his second Blackpool goal in the FA Cup win agaisnt Exeter City but does he have a future in the Scottish Premiership with Rangers?
Joe Dodoo was given a rare chance to impress from the start in Blackpool’s FA Cup first round clash against Exeter City on Sunday and he certainly seized it in style.
The 23-year-old Rangers forward scored just his second goal for the Tangerines, heading home in thumping fashion as Blackpool won 3-2 on the South Coast. This was arguably Dodoo’s best performance since leaving Ibrox for a loan spell in the North West, and Blackpool manager Terry McPhillips took the time to pay tribute to the former Leicester City forward.
“I’m delighted for him because he hasn’t played as much as he wants to and he’s let me know that to be fair,” McPhillips said in quotes reported by the Daily Record.
“He’s had his go and he’s done himself no harm, has he? I thought he was outstanding.”
The Daily Record adds that Dodoo was told to go elsewhere to get himself some game time by Rangers manager Steven Gerrard, with the versatile forward not part of his immediate plans at Ibrox.
But the former England U18 international will have to build on this weekend’s impressive display, particularly with Rangers thrashing Motherwell 7-1 in his absence.
Dodoo had a similar spell in League One with Charlton Athletic last season but failed to impress on a consistent basis, scoring twice in eight games and regularly finding himself out of the starting XI.
