Elias Sorensen is arguably the brightest young talent at Premier League outfit Newcastle United – but will Rafa Benitez let him leave St James’ on loan?
On Friday, The Chronicle claimed that Newcastle United had received an enquiry from Blackpool about the prolific young striker Elias Sorensen. And it seems those reports were right on the money.
Because, speaking to the Gazette four days later, Blackpool manager Terry McPhillips has confirmed that he does indeed want to bring the Danish target man to Bloomfield Road during the January transfer window.
But it seems that The Tangerines have a long way to go yet before they get their man.
“We are interested in him, yes, but so are a number of other clubs so we won’t get too excited about that unless it happens,” McPhillips said of Sorensen.
Sorensen has been in outstanding form for Newcastle’s U23 side this season, plundering 19 goals in all competitions with plenty of supporters demanding that he be promoted to the first-team squad to ease the burden on Salomon Rondon.
And the striker put an end to speculation over his long-term future at St James’ Park last week by signing a new three-and-a-half year deal. Though a first-ever loan move to a Football League club could be the ideal opportunity for Sorensen, who appears to have outgrown youth team football of late.
Blackpool are ninth in the League One table and their need for a new striker can be highlighted by a tally of 27 goals in 26 domestic games.
