Marcus Antonsson left Leeds United for League One title favourites Blackburn Rovers last summer but hasn’t scored in 12 games for Tony Mowbray’s side.

Marcus Antonsson is surely running out of time to prove that he deserves a fresh start at Leeds United.

The Swedish striker was farmed out on loan to Blackburn Rovers last summer after his £2 million move to Elland Road from Kalmar FF yielded little more than cameo appearances for most of a stuttering debut campaign.

But, after a bright start at Ewood Park, Antonsson has tailed off badly. He hasn’t scored in his last 12 games for Blackburn, a run that goes back to November, and has just seven in 27 League One games overall.

Tony Mowbray’s Rovers might be top of League One right now after an excellent run of form but Antonsson has been comfortably outshone by another attacking loanee, the red-hot Adam Armstrong who arrived from Newcastle in January and has scored nine times in ten starts.

And it seems that two more barren displays over the Easter weekend, in wins against Bradford and MK Dons, have hardly helped Antonsson’s cause. The Blackburn fans are now starting to get on his back, particularly after he missed a fantastic chance in the 2-0 victory versus Bradford, and a future at Leeds looks more unlikely than ever.

As it stands, the 26-year-old will return to Elland Road this summer. But how long he stays is another matter.
