Leeds United were reportedly interested in signing Championship goalkeeper David Stockdale from Birmingham City but he is stuck at St Andrews.
David Stockdale is stuck in limbo.
The goalkeeper was one of the best in the Championship as Brighton were promoted to the Premier League for the first time in 2017 but that is counting for nothing after a difficult debut season at Birmingham City.
The Blues had hoped to shift Stockdale out the door this summer with Leeds United seemingly interested in offering him a new home at Elland Road.
The Yorkshire Evening Post, however, claimed that Leeds were priced out of a move for the 32-year-old with his wages very different to the pay that The Whites were prepared to offer. By the end of the window, Leeds had brought in Jamal Blackman on loan from Chelsea instead to compete with Bailey Peacock-Farrell.
And Stockdale now appears to be in a really uncertain situation especially now another alleged suitor, Bolton Wanderers, have signed Norwich City’s Remi Matthews, according to the Birmingham Mail.
Birmingham boss Garry Monk made it clear at the start of the summer that Stockdale was not part of his plans but a failure to get him out the door leaves the Blues with an expensive passenger. Stockdale hasn’t been included in either of Birmingham’s first two Championship games.
Though that does not mean the one-time Darlington keeper has given up just yet. Responding to a Birmingham fan wondering whether he would welcome a return to the first-team, Stockdale tweeted this:
But with Birmingham having signed Lee Camp and with Connal Trueman in favour with Monk, a first-team return could be easier said than done.
