Wolverhampton Wanderers failed to lure Jack Colback away from the Championship over the summer, but now it’s said to be Birmingham City’s turn to give it a try.

Jack Colback came very close to joining the Wolves revolution this summer.
The Chronicle report that Colback was told in no uncertain terms by Newcastle United manager Rafa Benitez that he had no future on Tyneside. The 2017 Championship winners offered the midfielder to Wolves but, after talks, the 28-year-old turned down the move as he wanted to remain in the North East.
Though after six months stuck in the reserves, it seems that Colback may have a different mindset.

It is understood that Newcastle are desperate to get the former Sunderland midfielder off their books. and there’s no shortage of interest from the Championship – though Wolves are so far conspicuous by their absence.
There is one club in the Midlands, however, who would be happy to sign Colback in January. The Birmingham Mail states that Steve Cotterill’s Birmingham City are interested in offering him a fresh start at St Andrews – though his current £40,000-a-week wages may prove a sticking point.

Though Birmingham aren’t short of options in central midfield, they are currently bottom of the Championship and Colback’s tenacity and experience could come in handy ahead of what will no doubt be a daunting relegation battle.
It seems unlikely that Wolves will regret missing out on Colback, as they are sitting pretty at the top of the Championship and Colback would probably struggle to get into a midfield consisting of Ruben Neves, Alfred N’Diaye and Romain Saiss.
