Championship play-off hopefuls Leeds United will surely consider reuniting Marcelo Bielsa with his former Athletic Bilbao star Markel Susaeta.

During Marcelo Bielsa’s two seasons in charge of Athletic Bilbao between 2011 and 2013, Markel Susaeta missed just two of the club’s 76 La Liga games. That is how important the Basque-born wideman was to Bielsa’s system.
A hard-working and reliable presence on the right hand side, Susaeta was everything the former Argentina boss wanted from an attacker, combining technique with tenacity and balancing perspiration with inspiration.
“You can not deny the performance and influence of Susaeta,” Bielsa told Mundo Deportivo in 2012 of a player who also starred in central midfield and in a false nine role in those two glorious seasons.
Marca even described Susaeta as ‘untouchable’.
So the fact that one of Bielsa’s favourite players has just become a free agent will surely not have passed the 63-year-old by.

The legendary tactician has already been linked with one of his former Athletic Bilbao stars, defensive midfielder Ander Iturraspe (El Gol Digital), but his current Leeds United are arguably more in need of a creative and versatile attacker like Susaeta – regardless of which division they find themselves in next season.
Don’t be surprised then if Susaeta is working with Bielsa once again in West Yorkshire.
