What does the immediate future hold for Ryan Yates at Championship club Nottingham Forest? Even Aitor Karanka doesn’t know right now.

One of the great debates surrounding Nottingham Forest this summer has focused on what to do with Ryan Yates.
The Grimsby Telegraph reported a week ago that Aitor Karanka would let the 20-year-old midfielder leave the City Ground on loan again once he brought in a replacement. Yates enjoyed a super spell at Scunthorpe United last season and it seemed there was a whole host of lower league clubs interested.
But Yates might have just played his way into Karanka’s first-team plans instead. He scored the only goal of the game against, ironically, Scunthorpe in Forest’s latest pre-season friendly victory on Wednesday night.

Showing plenty of promise and outshining Adlene Guedioura as part of the midfield two in Karanka’s 4-2-3-1 formation, the former Middlesbrough boss admitted to the Nottingham Post that he was suffering from something of a dilemma.
Karanka knows Yates needs regular football but acknowledged that his performances over the summer have caught his eye, meaning he is considering keeping the youngster as part of his first-team squad.
And it seems that the majority of Forest fans believe that Yates deserves his chance, even with Jack Colback and Ben Watson ahead of him in the pecking order.
