Fraser Forster has been blamed for costing Tottenham Hotspur their opening goal today.

Spurs fell behind in their visit to Brentford on Boxing Day.

This is the Tottenham goalkeeper’s Premier League debut after Hugo Lloris – who lost a World Cup final last week – was benched.

However, Scott Minto believes that the former Southampton stopper was culpable for not dealing with the ball that ultimately wound up in the back of his net.

He said BBC Radio 5 Live: “It’s a simple long ball over the top. Ivan Toney gets the flick on, Bryan Mbeumo picks the ball up and just dinks it to the far post. Fraser Forster needs to do better there: if he’s not going to stop it, he needs to make sure he gets it away. It’s two yards in front of him.”

It’s a little harsh it has to be said, but others have pointed the finger at Forster, too.

However, legendary Premier League goalkeeper David James has defended the big man on Twitter.

Here’s what James has posted:

Whatever happens, Lloris will most probably be back between the sticks for the visit of Aston Villa on New Year’s Day.

But still, Forster will want to have as good a performance as possible and it’ll be fascinating to see what the second half has in store for him.
