Spurs are reportedly battling Premier League rivals Liverpool for Ben White, the Brighton defender on loan at League Two Newport County.

It does not take a genius to work out when and where young centre-back Ben White caught Mauricio Pochettino’s eye.
The Brighton and Hove Albion loanee was superb as League Two Newport County held Tottenham Hotspur to a 1-1 FA Cup draw last month, showcasing his composure in possession and expert positional sense which belies his tender years.
In short, White looked like exactly the kind of young talent Pochettino tends to target, skilful, composed and with potential by the bucket load. And it is fair to say he saved up his very best for when Tottenham came to town. That one performance could be the making of this little-known 20-year-old.

According to The Sun, both Tottenham and Liverpool are expressing an interest in White, who has just one year remaining on his Brighton contract and is understood to have rejected a new deal to commit his future to the South Coast club.
Aced audition
And it seems that White did enough in just 90 minutes against Harry Kane and co at Rodney Parade to convince Pochettino that he is worth keeping a very close eye on.

He did not let anything past him until Kane, the arch poacher, snaffled up a late equaliser from a corner kick but it appears that this did not distract from a superb audition from the Brighton-owned talent.
The fact that White completely outclassed Juan Foyth at Rodney Parade, the highly-rated Argentine defender Spurs paid £8 million for last summer per the BBC, bodes well for his chances of a big break in North London.
