Championship clubs were understood to be interested in luring Sheffield Wednesday midfielder Barry Bannan away from Hillsborough in the transfer window.
Sheffield Wednesday finally appear to be finding some form under Jos Luhukay and Barry Bannan is a major part of the recent upturn.
The 28-year-old midfielder has been instrumental in 2-1 wins over Millwall and Ipswich, scoring a long-range screamer against the former while grabbing an assist against Paul Hurst’s stalling Tractor Boys on Saturday.
But with Bannan’s contract set to expire next summer, TEAMtalk claim that the Scotland international has been attracting attention from other Championship clubs hoping to land an influential midfielder on the cheap.
Fortunately for Wednesday fans, however, Bannan has now committed his long term future to The Owls.
It has been confirmed that the former Aston Villa man has agreed a new contract until 2021, which will come as a relief to Luhukay and Wednesday supporters up and down the land.
Due to a transfer embargo, the Steel City side were unable to sign a single player during the summer transfer window. So keeping Bannan will be a welcome boost at a time where other Championship clubs are scouring the market in a last-ditch attempt to improve their squad.
