The Rangers winger has been in fine form recently with some suggesting he will outgrow the Scottish Premiership.

The fact that Barrie McKay has assumed the role of Rangers’ key creative player may speak volumes about the lack of options within his squad but, as reported by the Daily Record, he knows that Ibrox holds the key to fulfilling his potential.

Just two seasons ago, the 22-year-old was attempting to prove his worth to the Rangers hierarchy via a season-long loan spell with Raith Rovers but, in his first season at the top level of the Scottish game, he has taken like a duck to water.

So much so that fellow Scot Oliver Burke, who witnessed McKay’s talents first hand in RB Leipzig thrashing of Rangers 4-0 in a recent friendly, tipped his young compatriot to earn himself a big-money move out of Scotland.

Not that McKay is interested in following in the footsteps of so many of his talented young compatriots just yet.

“I’m happy here at Rangers and I’m here to play for Rangers, so to talk about [transfers] wouldn’t be right,” McKay said in quotes reported by the Daily Record. “I’m playing for Rangers just now and that’s my only concern.”

And so it should be. In Mark Warburton, McKay is working with one of the best in the business when it comes to developing young talents.

At Brentford, he moulded Moses Odubajo and Andre Gray into top flight footballers while set Scott Hogan on his way to becoming the most expensive player in Championship history.

Furthermore, with his desire to build a legacy at Ibrox based upon young, hungry talent, McKay could play a major role in re-establishing the giants of Rangers at the top of the domestic game.

And that should be enough to convince him that Ibrox, and Warburton’s expert tutelage, represents his best chance of turning potential into established talent.
