Spurs missed out on Andre Gomes in the summer but Barca may be willing to consider reduced offers in January.

It appears that Tottenham Hotspur are unwilling to accept defeat over their pursuit of Barcelona midfielder Andre Gomes.

According to The Mail, Spurs were closing to striking a deal for the Portuguese international on transfer deadline day, only for Barca to pull the plug as they were unable to secure a replacement – most likely Liverpool’s Philippe Coutinho.

And The Sun reports that Spurs have been given an indication that Gomes will be available in the transfer window as he aims to secure first-team football ahead of the World Cup in Russia next year.

The report adds that Gomes could be available on loan or even for as little as £20 million – far less than it would cost to take England international play-maker Ross Barkley away from Everton despite the fact his contract is due to expire next summer.

And while Gomes has struggled badly since moving to the Camp Nou last summer, stuck in the shadow of Andres Iniesta and struggling to influence games at the highest level, a potential £20 million price tag would make him a real snip in today’s transfer market.

Especially when you consider that Barcelona paid £10 million more to sign him from Valencia just 14 months ago, as reported by the BBC.

The fact that the Catalan giants are reportedly willing to let Gomes leave for a fraction of his price after just over a year at the club may ring alarm bells. Yet, if the Euro 2016 winning midfielder can replicate the powerful and dynamic performances that headlined his time at Valencia, Spurs would have an excellent midfielder on their hands at a bargain fee.
