Tyrone Mears made his first appearance for West Bromwich Albion in their EFL Cup win against League Two Mansfield Town on Tuesday.

It has been a hectic 24 hours or so for Tyrone Mears.
The 35-year-old free agent only joined West Bromwich Albion on Tuesday and ended the day making his debut in the EFL Cup second round win against Mansfield Town.
The Baggies have been on the lookout for a new right-back all summer with the likes of James Tavernier, Jack Stacey and Tom James on their radar. So ending the summer by signing a veteran without a club appeared rather underwhelming.
And, to make matters worse, Mears is already being criticised by some seriously unimpressed fans on social media.

The former Burnley and Preston man started at right wing-back against League Two opposition on Tuesday night. And, while he clearly still has the energy to get up and down the flank, it is fair to say his passing could do with some work.
Then again, maybe some rustiness should be expected. After all, Mears only arrived a few hours before starting against Mansfield, flying over from Minnesota after his spell in MLS.
There were some positives to take from West Brom’s win, particularly the goals from youngsters Jonathan Leko and Kyle Edwards. But it seems that Mears already has a point to prove to some supporters, although those who reserved judgement until after seeing him play were quite surprised.
