Daniel Arzani moved to Celtic on loan from Premier League champions Manchester City but hasn’t made a single appearance under Brendan Rodgers.
Daniel Arzani’s performance for Australia on Monday night certainly got people talking.
The youngest player at the 2018 World Cup picked up his fifth cap for his country in the 4-0 thrashing of Kuwait, making a massive impact with his speed and directness after coming off the bench in the second half.
As a result, a light has now been shone on his lack of opportunities at Celtic. The 19-year-old arrived at Parkhead on a two year loan deal from Manchester City this summer but is yet to make a single first-team appearance and was also left out of The Hoops’ Europa League squad.
And, on Fox Sports‘ live coverage of the game (16 October, 3.30am), former Australia international Robbie Slater has now passed judgement on Arzani’s lack of opportunities under Brendan Rodgers.
“It was an obvious error to take him there,” said the former West Ham and Southampton midfielder.
“After doing what he did at the World Cup, he needed to go somewhere and play regularly. Clearly, Brendan Rodgers won’t be starting him any time soon.
“Something’s gone wrong – very, very wrong there.”
Arzani enjoyed a remarkable breakthrough season with Melbourne City in 2017/18, winning the A-League’s Young Footballer of the Year award.
And with Celtic at times struggling from a lack of creativity in attack in recent weeks, why Arzani has not been given a chance remains a mystery.
