Championship duo Aston Villa and Sheffield Wednesday are reportedly after Peterborough United’s Jack Marriott while Sean Clare is in demand too.

Aston Villa could reportedly snap up Sheffield Wednesday’s most promising talent – and then follow that up by snatching the striker who could turn The Owls back into promotion candidates.

So, if both these deals come off, expect Wednesday fans to be far from happy with Aston Villa this summer.

As reported by The Mirror, Aston Villa look to have beaten off a whole host of competition to sign the 21-year-old midfielder Sean Clare, who exploded onto the scene at Hillsborough in 2018.

He might have made just four Championship starts after returning from a loan spell at Gillingham but Clare had more than enough time to showcase his huge potential, particularly during a 4-2 defeat against Villa in march in which he capped a fine performance with a goal.

And The Mail is now reporting that Aston Villa and Sheffield Wednesday are just two of the sides interested in the much coveted Peterborough United striker Jack Marriott.

The £6.5 million Marriott, who netted a Football League high 33 goals in all competitions in 2017/18, looks more than good enough for Championship level and could perhaps be a game-changing addition to Jos Luhukay’s side.

Only two players hit double figures for Wednesday last season, Atdhe Nuhiu with 11 and Gary Hooper with 10. But with finances tight at Hillsborough thanks to potential FFP sanctions, Aston Villa would have a major advantage should they beat Fulham in Saturday’s play-off final.

In an ideal world, Wednesday would love to pair Clare and Marriott in attack next season, but Aston Villa will do their best to ensure that doesn’t happen.
