If Aston Villa sealed their Premier League return, Steve Round reportedly wanted Manchester United’s Fellaini and West Ham striker Javier Hernandez.

With Aston Villa fans coming to terms with their play-off final defeat and the subsequent financial meltdown that will see a number of their key players depart this summer, perhaps now is not the best time to remind them of what could have been.
Villa seemingly had big plans in place for if they sealed a return to the Premier League, and they did not stop at merely securing permanent deals for the likes of Robert Snodgrass, Sam Johnstone and Lewis Grabban.
The £27.5 million Manchester United powerhouse was due to become a free agent this summer before he belatedly signed a new contract with the Old Trafford giants last week. And Villa’s now sacked technical director Steve Round, who worked with Fellaini at United and Everton, had the Belgian on his radar.

Round was also keen on signing another player he knew from his time alongside David Moyes at Old Trafford – West Ham’s £16 million poacher Javier Hernandez. The Mexican is a proven Premier League goal-scorer.
Finally, Villa wanted Thomas Delaney, the Danish international midfielder who recently swapped Werder Bremen for Borussia Dortmund for £19 million.
