Aston Villa reportedly offered a contract to Angers’ Ligue 1 hero Stephane Bahoken at the start of the summer transfer window.

Stephane Bahoken has been linked with a move to Aston Villa in each of the last two transfer windows.

According to Sport.sfr, Villa tried to sign Bahoken on loan in January, and they made another approach at the start of the summer. RMC Sport claimed that the Midland club had offered him a contract after the 26-year-old’s deal at Strasbourg expired.

Rather than make the move to England, Bahoken stayed in France, signing for Angers on a four-year deal. And the two-time Cameroon international has not waited around to show Steve Bruce what he is missing.

While Villa struggle in the Championship, Bahoken has been in terrific form at Angers. He scored one of the most high-profile goals of his career on Tuesday, netting the winning goal away from home at AS Monaco to consign the 2017 Ligue 1 champions to a 1-0 defeat.

This will only help to establish the one-time St Mirren loanee’s reputation as a big-game player. Bahoken scored a wonderful goal in a 2-1 win against none other than Paris Saint-Germain back in December of last year.

Villa could have done with his ability to pop up at the perfect moment as they were losing at home to Sheffield Wednesday on Saturday.
