According to the Daily Mirror, Aston Villa are planning contract talks with Jack Grealish in the summer, but they may have to be promoted to have any chance to getting him to pen a new deal.

Grealish may be a boyhood Villa fan, and have a strong connection to the club, but his future is sure to be speculated about, if Villa do not go up this season.

The Republic of Ireland international has come back from injury to become a key player for the claret and blues, and he appears to be starting to fulfil his obvious potential.

Grealish has been a stand out player in the Championship this season, and his form is sure to have raised eyebrows from top flight clubs.

Villa are now eager to tie Grealish down for the long-term, but they will surely have to be in the Premier League to stand a chance of keeping the youngster.

Grealish is now 22, and even if he wants to stay with Villa, if they are in the Championship again next term, he may have to consider moving on for the good of his own career.

The great news for Villa is that they are in a strong position to earn promotion, having moved up to second place in the Championship standings at the weekend.

And if they want to keep Grealish then Bruce’s side will surely have added motivation to hold on to their place in the automatic promotion spots this season.
