Ben Gibson reportedly wants to leave Burnley after just one Premier League game so could he join Dean Smith’s Aston Villa?

Ben Gibson might be wishing he had joined Aston Villa in the January transfer window after all.

According to Sky Sports, Villa made an offer to sign the Burnley defender on loan for the rest of the 2018/19 season with the deal set to include a clause that would allow the Midland giants to sign him permanently should he impress in the Championship.

Burnley decided against letting Gibson go, however, although it is not as if the 26-year-old was a key player under Sean Dyche in the second half of the campaign.

In fact, Gibson has not made a single Premier League appearance for the Clarets in 2019, his most recent outing the 5-1 home defeat to Everton on Boxing Day.

But, with Aston Villa still in need of some added depth at centre-half with doubts surrounding the futures of loanees Tyrone Mings and Axel Tuanzebe, reports that Gibson wants out of Turf Moor should not go unnoticed.

The Mirror (9 May, page 56) claims that the former Middlesbrough defender is open to a move just one year after he moved to Turf Moor. And Burnley could sell if they can recoup their £15 million investment.

Aston Villa will have plenty of funds to play with should they get through the play-offs and Gibson would surely be receptive to any interest from Dean Smith’s side.
