Should rivals Aston Villa move for Benik Afobe?
Benik Afobe needs a new club before the end of the transfer window – but is running out of time to seal a move away from Bournemouth.
It is understood that The Cherries are willing to sell the 24-year-old this month. Wolves are keen on re-signing a striker they sold for £10 million two years ago but, according to the Express and Star, only want him on loan – which puts a return to Molineux in jeopardy.
West Brom are also interested but, as reported by the Birmingham Mail, are unlikely to give Bournemouth back their £10 million due to the fear of Financial Fair Play sanctions.
But with Aston Villa on the verge of reaching February without managing to bring in a single new striker this month, the ball may now be in their court.
And after Steve Bruce’s top target Leonardo Ulloa re-joined former club Brighton from Leicester City, Villa fans are demanding that their club at least tries for Afobe before they are condemned to four months without a replacement for Jonathan Kodjia.
Like Wolves and West Brom, Villa will not be meeting Bournemouth’s £10 million asking price. But if The Cherries are willing to accept defeat and let Afobe leave on a temporary basis instead, it would seem remiss if Villa weren’t at the front of the queue.
