Callum O’Hare scored twice for Aston Villa’s U23s against Newcastle United – is a first Championship start just around the corner?
The lack of opportunities afforded to Callum O’Hare at Aston Villa has been a constant source of frustration for supporters.
The highly-rated academy starlet played just 113 minutes of Championship football last season under Steve Bruce despite some eye-catching performances for the U23s.
But with Dean Smith having replaced Bruce at the helm, Villa fans seem increasingly confident that O’Hare will finally be given a chance to prove himself at senior level.
After all, Smith showed at Brentford and Walsall a philosophy built upon free-flowing attacking football, a style that would undoubtedly suit the creative and intelligent O’Hare. His willingness to give youth a chance undoubtedly stands the 20-year-old in good stead too.
And O’Hare marked his first U23 game since Smith’s arrival at Villa Park with a clinical brace in an otherwise disappointing 5-2 home defeat to an Elias Sorensen inspired Newcastle United on Monday night. The Brummie starlet now has three goals in six starts this season.
So with Jack Grealish struggling to find his best form since being heavily linked with a move away over the summer transfer window, could there soon be a chance for O’Hare to shine in the Smith regime?
