Henri Lansbury joined Aston Villa from Championship rivals Nottingham Forest in January of last year, but what do links with the Middlesbrough duo mean?
In the space of three days, Aston Villa have been linked with two separate Middlesbrough midfielders named Adam.
The Yorkshire Post reported earlier this week that Villa were one of a number of Championship sides keen to bring Adam Clayton over from The Riverside.
And, according to the Northern Echo, another member of Middlesbrough’s 2016 promotion winning team, Adam Forshaw, is on Villa’s radar. A Derby County side sitting second in the table, but in the market for an experienced and tenacious midfield enforcer, are set to rival Steve Bruce’s side.
All of this, however, is hardly good news for Henri Lansbury. The 27-year-old has struggled to nail down a place in the starting XI in an injury hit season anyway, with just four starts to his name.
And reports that Villa are looking for yet another central midfielder to add to Glenn Whelan, Conor Hourihane and Mile Jedinak does not exactly bode well for the former Nottingham Forest midfielder.
In truth, Villa have not really seen the best of Lansbury since he completed his £3million move to Villa Park 12 months ago, as reported by Sky Sports. He famously failed to score or set up a single goal in 18 Championship appearances in the second half of last season despite beginning the campaign with six goals and three assists for Forest.
And with Lansbury seemingly behind Hourihane and co in the pecking order, the addition of Forshaw or Clayton could make it even more difficult to force his way into the starting XI.
