Aston Villa’s hopes of landing Moses Odubajo looked over but they have a chance now – but the right-back is reportedly training with Brentford

With less than a week to go until the new Championship season kicks off, Moses Odubajo is still without a club.
The 24-year-old winger-turned-right-back has not played a competitive game of football since Hull’s 1-0 win against Sheffield Wednesday in the 2016 play-off final thanks to injury and is now a free-agent after being released by The Tigers at the end of last season.
Odubajo has been on the radar of a number of clubs since without finding a place to settle down.
The Hull Daily Mail claimed that former Hull boss Steve Bruce was interested in a reunion at Aston Villa but reports from the Mirror (live blog, 10.26am) in July stated that their financial situation was so bad that they couldn’t even afford free agents.

That was then, however, and Villa are no longer stuck in a crisis after being taken over by wealthy new owners Naseef Sawiris and Wes Edens. Odubajo is suddenly an option for Aston Villa again.
And he would be a fine addition to Bruce’s squad, adding speed and versatility on the right-hand side while representing a more attacking alternative to Alan Hutton.
Villa will have to move quick, however, given that Brentford, who Odubajo played for in 2014/15, are considering offering him a contract. The former Leyton Orient attacker has been training at Griffin Park, according to West London Sport.
The good news is, though, that Villa can afford Odubajo these days.
