Nottingham Forest sold England youth star Arvin Appiah to La Liga-chasing Almeria after just six Championship appearances.
Arvin Appiah will initially play for Almeria’s reserve side despite joining the nouveau-riche Spaniards from Nottingham Forest in a money-spinning £8 million deal, according to AS.
Appiah moved into the top five in the all-time list of most expensive departures from the City Ground earlier in September, joining Almeria for a huge fee despite making just six Championship appearances for the two-time European champions.
The highly-rated winger was one of the most exciting young talents to emerge out of Nottingham Forest’s academy in the last few years but £8 million for an 18-year-old back-up player was simply too much to turn down.
His destination, however, did raise a few eyebrows.
Despite being linked with the likes of Liverpool and Manchester United, Appiah joined Spanish second division outfit UD Almeria, who’s coffers were swelled substantially by a recent takeover from Saudi Arabian Turki Al-Sheikh.
But, according to AS, Appiah will be forced to spend his first few months at Almeria playing for the reserves in Spain’s multi-layered third tier.
The England youth star is not the only head-turning signing Almeria have made in recent months. Ante Coric, the one-time ‘new Luka Modric’, joined over the summer too just 12 months after being snapped up by Roma for a big fee.
