Arsenal are reportedly set to hold talks with Basel defender Eray Comert but Premier League rivals Everton should respond.

There are not many high quality centre-backs available right now for just £7 million. So no wonder Eray Comert is a man in demand.
A young Swiss defender born to Turkish parents, Comert was raised in Basel and is now a regular fixture in the starting XI of his local team. The 21-year-old exploded on to the scene in 2018/19 and it seems he has caught the eye of a number of clubs around Europe despite making less than 100 league appearances so far.
The Mail claimed recently that Everton had a real interest in Comert and it is no wonder.
The Toffees have released Phil Jagielka and they face a real challenge bringing back Kurt Zouma from Chelsea. And the fact that Marcel Brands is willing to put his faith in a little known youngster like Comert is little surprise. Brands, after all, is famed for unearthing diamonds in the rough.
But are Everton at risk of missing out on one of the summer’s very best bargains?

Quite possibly. The Mail reports on Wednesday that Arsenal are set to send their representatives to Switzerland to hold talks with Comert as the cash-strapped Gunners look to re-build their ailing side on a limited budget.
Should it come to it, though, Everton could have the financial firepower to blow Arsenal out of the water – a sign of the times for both clubs.
Yet Comert’s minimal price-tag is part of the appeal.
