Legendary Arsenal goalkeeper David Seaman believes Arsene Wenger is one of the most influential managers in footballing history. But he has pointed out that man-management was not the Frenchman’s strong point while speaking on Alan Brazil’s Sports Breakfast on talkSPORT (20 March, 9.15am).

Seaman spent eight years alongside Wenger at Highbury, winning two Premier League titles and three FA Cups.

And the former Monaco boss is widely credited with having a transformative impact in English football, bringing the likes of Thierry Henry and Patrick Vieira to British shores while introducing revolutionary approaches to tactics and dieting.

One area where the Frenchman perhaps let himself down, however, was his ability to deal with individual players.

“Arsene Wenger was rubbish at it (man-management),” former England international Seaman revealed. “Arsene never used to bother with it.

“He would name the team on a Saturday morning and if you weren’t playing the lads would be like ‘can I have a word’ and Arsene would say ‘no’,” he added with a chuckle.

“And that was it! He hated confrontation.”

Wenger spent over two decades in North London but his spell finally came to an end last May with Unai Emery replacing him at the Emirates.

And Arsenal look a team revitalised after missing out on the Champions League in each of Wenger’s last two seasons at the helm, moving ahead of Manchester United into fourth spot after beating Ole Gunnar Solskjaer’s side 2-0 before the international break.
