Arsenal farmed Callum Chambers out to Premier League newcomers Fulham in the summer transfer window, and he started the defeat to Chelsea.
With the glory of Arsenal’s 4-2 derby win over Tottenham Hotspur resonating around North London, Callum Chambers’ performance for Fulham just an hour or so before has gone somewhat unnoticed.
But while his parent club produced one of their finest attacking performances in the modern era, blitzing Mauricio Pochettino’s Spurs in a stunning second half display, Chambers offered a timely reminder of his qualities, too, in Fulham’s 2-0 defeat against Chelsea earlier on Sunday.
Arsenal farmed the 23-year-old out to their London neighbours during the summer transfer window and, after a couple of unconvincing displays at centre-back, the former Southampton man was moved forward into central midfield in Claudio Ranieri’s second game in charge of the Cottagers.
Chambers was arguably the pick of Fulham’s players at Stamford Bridge. He looked strong and sturdy in the centre of the park, while forcing Chelsea goalkeeper Kepa into a decent save with a terrific first-time effort from the edge of the box.
And the Arsenal fans who found the time to tune in were particularly impressed – alhough whether Chambers has a future at the Emirates remains to be seen.
