Tottenham Hotspur are reportedly keen on Sunderland striker Josh Maja, as well as La Liga duo Maxi Gomez and Borja Iglesias.
Josh Maja was Sunderland’s hero once again on Tuesday night. The 19-year-old reached ten goals for the season in the 1-0 win against Morecambe in the Checkatrade Trophy clash, hitting the net with a clinical finish after a picture perfect first touch.
There is a genuine claim to be made that Maja is the most exciting young talent in League One since a certain Dele Alli. And the Mirror has reported that the teenage Black Cats striker could even link up with the former MK Dons wonderkid with Tottenham Hotspur understood to be interested.
Maja, as it stands, is out of contract at the end of this season.
But, in a potential boost for Sunderland, recent reports from the continent have suggested that Tottenham are now looking elsewhere in their attempts to take the pressure off Harry Kane.
El Gol Digital reported that Spurs were willing to pay the £26 million release clause of in-form Espanyol forward Borja Iglesias, who has scored seven goals since signing from Celta Vigo and fired his side to fifth in the table.
El Pais also reports that Celta’s supposed ‘new Luis Suarez’, the prolific Uruguayan Maxi Gomez, is on Tottenham’s radar despite the £44 million release clause in his contract.
Both Iglesias and Gomez would be ready-made additions to Tottenham’s squad, while Maja is perhaps more of a long-term option who would need to prove himself in the reserves initially.
And Sunderland fans will be praying that Spurs have turned their sights elsewhere.
