Premier League clubs are after Inter Milan’s Valencia loanee Joao Cancelo – and Spurs tried to sign him last summer.

In August last year, Football Espana report that Tottenham Hotspur made a £20 million bid to sign Valencia right-back Joao Cancelo. And, one year on, could Spurs be about to renew their interest in the Portuguese international?

Well, according to Calciomercato, Cancelo is a target for a number of Premier League clubs this summer.

He has impressed during a loan spell at Inter Milan in 2017/18 and the Serie A giants have the option to make his move permanent for around £30 million.

Cancelo’s future hangs in the balance, however, with Calciomercato adding that Valencia have the power to bring him back to the Mestalla and sell him to a higher bidder. Inter, meanwhile, do not want to pay £30 million due to Financial Fair Play fears.

And the report adds that Cancelo, a skilful and direct full-back who operates more like a winger, could end up in England with Manchester United already understood to be interested.

But it would make sense for Tottenham to be in the race again, and not just because they were interested in signing the 23-year-old last summer.

Reports have suggested that the North London giants are keen to improve their options at right-back with The Mirror claiming that there are already doubts about the future of Serge Aurier after an erratic debut season in England.

Spurs are keen on Southampton’s Cedric Soares and, according to O Jogo, have been watching another Portuguese international in Porto’s Ricardo Pereira.

But Cancelo is the best of the lot.
