Former Everton and Southampton manager Ronald Koeman is one of the favourites to replace Paul Clement at Premier League strugglers Swansea City.

Paul Clement was a genuine candidate to be named the Premier League’s Manager of the Year last season. The highly-rated coach arrived at the Liberty Stadium midway through 2016/17 with The Swans favourites for relegation, but inspired a remarkable turnaround that saw the South Wales side survive in style.

But, just a few months into his first full campaign at the helm, Clement has gone – paying the price for a run of just three league wins all season which has Swansea rooted to the foot of the table.

According to The Mirror (live blog, 2.51am), however, the club’s American owners are attempting to act fast and secure a replacement immediately. It is understood that Louis Van Gaal is a shock front-runner, while Ronald Koeman is also in the frame – just two months after he was sacked by Everton.

But are Swansea fighting a losing battle attempting to lure Koeman to Wales? Possibly, with the Dutchman thought to be wanting to take a break from football after the dismal end to his tenure at Goodison Park.

Jim White told talkSPORT last month that West Brom were interested in hiring Koeman, after they dispensed with the services of Tony Pulis. However, after the former Southampton boss made it clear that he had no interest in taking up another job so soon, they swiftly ended their pursuit and turned to Alan Pardew instead.

It appears unlikely that Koeman will have performed a dramatic U-turn in just four weeks.
