Southampton need a striker and Bayern Munich’s Wagner is perfect for them, as well as Premier League duo Crystal Palace and West Ham United

Sandro Wagner might be stuck behind arguably the best centre-forward in world football at Bayern Munich – but this does not mean the outspoken German is willing to accept life on the Bavarian’s bench.

Since Niko Kovac took over at the Allianz Arena, Wagner has started just one Bundesliga game out of a possible 11.

And with a number of clubs in the Premier League looking for a striker in January, it is little surprise that Wagner’s reduced role has been noticed across England. According to The Sun, West Ham United manager Manuel Pellegrini wants to complete a £6 million deal for Wagner in the next few weeks.

The former Hoffenheim talisman, who moved to Bayern just 10 months ago, is a powerful and physical target man who could fit in perfectly to the style of English football. Crystal Palace are also reported to be interested.

Sandro Wagner of FC Bayern Muenchen is pictured during a training session at the club's Saebener Strasse training ground on November 22, 2018 in Munich, Germany.

But with The Sun adding that Wagner is frustrated with life at Bayern, Southampton simply cannot let the German international out of their sights.

Bild claimed that Hoffenheim rejected a £14.5 million bid from The Saints in 2017, but could the door now be open for Mark Hughes’ side to sign the old-school striker for a fraction of that offer?

Southampton have lacked a prolific centre-forward ever since Graziano Pelle left for China two years ago but Wagner’s aggression and poachers instinct would give Hughes some much needed presence in attack.
