Scottish Premiership champions Celtic could lose Tom Rogic with the Australian playmaker unwilling to commit his future to Parkhead right now.

Celtic appear none the wiser on Tom Rogic’s future at Parkhead.

The Australian international midfielder is out of contract in the summer of 2019 so Celtic are hoping to tie him down to a new deal amid fears that he could leave on a free in just over a year’s time.

But, so far, it appears that Rogic is unwilling to commit. According to the Daily Record, negotiations between player and club are ongoing but the former Central Coast Mariners star has so far been unwilling to agree fresh terms.

The World Game claimed a month ago that Rogic was unhappy with the terms being offered and was also concerned that the January arrival of Charly Musonda would limit his game time in Scotland.

And the results of the last month should have made it clear just how essential it is that Celtic keep Rogic at Parkhead. Sunday’s dire stalemate at Motherwell was the latest in a series of disappointing, disjointed attacking performances from the reigning Scottish champions.

And while Rogic did play at Firhill and was far from his best, he is one of the players in Brendan Rodgers’ squad who has the ability to change a game with a moment of magic, be it a defence splitting pass or a stunning long-range strike.

He is the sort of player a Celtic side who have looked a little predictable of late simply must keep around the place.
