Rangers are reportedly set to bring Hull City’s Allan McGregor back to Ibrox while Scottish Premiership rivals Celtic search for a new goalkeeper.

With the summer transfer window on the horizon, there is one position that Brendan Rodgers must make a priority.
The club’s goalkeeping situation is a little up in the air at the moment after all. Craig Gordon’s recent three-month injury lay-off appears to have reminded Celtic that he is 35 these days and cannot go on forever, so potential back-ups or long-term successors have been sounded out.
The Scottish Sun says Celtic want to keep loanee Scott Bain when his Dundee contract expires but so do other clubs in England and Scotland. Trevor Carson – who Celtic failed to sign in January – is also a target again, but a Cardiff City side that could be promoted to the Premier League are also keen according to the Sun (15 April, page 51).

And Angus Gunn, the Manchester City loanee who has shone at Norwich, is seemingly set to join a top flight English side next summer despite Celtic’s interest.
In short, we have no idea who will be between the sticks on the green half of Glasgow next season.
So Old Firm rivals Rangers deserve credit for attempting to reinforce their goalkeeping position before the transfer window has even begun. According to the Scottish Sun, the Gers are set to bring Allan McGregor back to Ibrox this summer when his Hull City contact expires.

The Scotland international might be 36 these days but he is still as impressive as ever, keeping 12 clean sheets for a usually haphazard Hull side this season. And McGregor will be a superb addition given that Wes Foderingham has not always convinced of late.
So while Celtic plod on in search of a new number one, Rangers should be given credit for seemingly acting swiftly and decisively.
