Mile Jedinak might not be the only Australian at Aston Villa at the end of January.

According to The Herald, Villa are targeting A-League duo Josh Risdon and Brandon O’Neill ahead of the mid-season window with Dean Smith keen to add some new faces to his squad.

Western Sydney Wanderers star Risdon is a right-back who has 13 caps for the Socceroos while his close friend O’Neill, who plays just down the road at Sydney FC, is a defensively minded central midfielder.

But could Aston Villa be facing competition from for O’Neill from Queens Park Rangers? Reading between the lines, the report from The Herald suggests this is a possibility.

Because it is understood that Villa are not the only Championship outfit who are interested in the 24-year-old former Perth Glory youngster. The report states that a ‘London-based club’ is also tracking O’Neill – one that is due to be under a transfer embargo in January.

London-based, transfer embargo; this surely narrows down the possibilities and leaves QPR as the most likely candidate.

Fortunately for Aston Villa, however, the fact that QPR will be unable to register new players next month means the Midland giants have the advantage if they are keen to bring O’Neill to the Championship.
