Everton have been linked with PSV Eindhoven’s Lozano since December but Barcelona and Manchester United are keen, too.

Has the chance to sign Hirving Lozano passed Everton by?

The Toffees were one of the first clubs to cotton onto the Mexican international during his superb debut season in Holland with PSV Eindhoven. Super Deportivo claimed in December last year that they had even made a bid heading into the January transfer window.

The Sunday Mirror, meanwhile, claimed in April (22nd, page 64), that the former Pachuca starlet was still in Everton’s sights.

Sporting director Marcel Brands’ move from PSV to Everton appeared to give the Merseysiders an excellent chance of winning the race, too.

But even Brands could be powerless now. Because Lozano’s fantastic performances at the World Cup, particularly his winning goal against Germany, means he is no longer an under-the-radar talent.

According to AS, bona fide European giants like Barcelona, Atletico Madrid, Borussia Dortmund and Manchester United are all interested in the 23-year-old, who has an affordable release clause of £35 million in his contract.

Everton should have no trouble paying such a fee for Lozano, who scored 17 goals in 29 Eredivisie games from the wing last season. But it seems unlikely that he would choose Goodison Park now with more glamorous destinations available.
