Championship promotion chasers Leeds and Nottingham Forest are understood to keen in Leyton Orient’s National League phenomenon Macauley Bonne.

It is somewhat inevitable that every prolific non-league striker will be compared to Jamie Vardy if he is given a chance to prove himself higher up the footballing pyramid.
But, in the case of Macauley Bonne, the comparisons are justified. The Leyton Orient striker has taken the National League by storm this season and simply cannot stop scoring with 15 goals in just 21 games in all competitions.
The Zimbabwe international is comfortably on track to match his 2017/18 haul of 25.
And, according to TEAMtalk, Bonne could be set to follow in Vardy’s footsteps by making the substantial jump from the fifth tier to the Championship in the New Year.
A number of second division clubs are understood to be looking at 23-year-old Bonne, who is just a year younger than Vardy was when he joined Leicester City from Fleetwood Town in 2012. Leeds United and Nottingham Forest are at the front of the queue with Bonne currently the National League’s joint top scorer.

Now, this is not to say that if Bonne arrives at the City Ground or Elland Road that he will inspire his new employers to promotion, survival and then a historic Premier League title in the space of just four years.
But Bonne is arguably the most impressive young striker to emerge from outside the Football League since Leicester’s legendary number nine, so no wonder Leeds and Nottingham Forest are looking to follow in The Foxes’ footsteps.
