Championship promotion chasers Leeds United reportedly want Newcastle’s Premier League goalkeeper Freddie Woodman and Leyton Orient’s Macauley Bonne.
Leeds United were at the heart of the play-off battle as the January transfer window swung open midway through the 2016/17 season.
But Garry Monk’s side lost their momentum and eventually slipped out of contention, and many fans attributed their late-season collapse to the failure to bring proven Championship quality and experience to Elland Road, with only Modou Barrow and Alfonso Pedraza arriving on loan.
So, with Leeds just a point off the top right now, the West Yorkshire faithful will be praying that Marcelo Bielsa’s side do not fall away in the second half of the campaign.
Although, like in 2017, it seems that Leeds are looking at potential rather than proven quality in the January window.
According to TEAMtalk, Leeds are among a number of Championship clubs keeping tabs on Macauley Bonne, the 23-year-old Leyton Orient striker who has scored 15 goals for the National League side this season.
Prolific though he is, the Zimbabwe international has never played above League One level.
The Chronicle has also claimed that Leeds have asked Newcastle United about taking 21-year-old goalkeeper Freddie Woodman on loan. While talented, Woodman has made just 36 senior appearances, none of those coming in the Championship.
So Leeds will be hoping that going for youth over experience does not cost them dear again, with the club’s January plans becoming clear.
