Scottish Premiership giants Celtic could lose Dedryck Boyata with Premier League newcomers Fulham reportedly eyeing a move.
Dedryck Boyata never really got going at Manchester City.
As an almost permanent reserve, a regular first-team role always eluded the Belgian defender. And, to be quite honest, it always felt that he was being kept around in order comply with the ‘home-grown player’ rule, having moved to Manchester back 2005.
According to the Sun, Boyata could have been lined up for a return to England after three years north of the border at Celtic. The 27-year-old has just one year left on his contract with the Hoops and it is understood that newly promoted Premier League side Fulham are interested in a big-money move for Belgium’s World Cup ace.
The report adds that Celtic do not want to sell, but could be tempted by a big offer. In truth, however, is Boyata even good enough to be handed another chance in the top flight of English football?
The centre-back has endured a difficult season at Celtic, making a number of dreadful errors, most memorably in the Champions League as Brendan Rodgers’ side suffered humiliating defeats to PSG and Bayern Munich.
Boyata has even been nicknamed, albeit harshly, ‘bomb scare’ by some supporters due to his penchant for crucial mistakes at big moments. This is not dissimilar to the reputation he had at City.
So if Fulham are to pay big for a new centre-back, there are probably better options elsewhere.
