Jean-Philippe Gbamin and Moise Kean are allegedly on the verge of signing for Premier League high-flyers Everton.

There is nothing more fickle than top level football.

Just six months ago, Marco Silva appeared to be on his last legs. After a nightmare festive period and the ignominy of an FA Cup defeat away at Millwall, it seemed only a matter of time before the former Watford boss lost his grip and was flung unceremoniously from the managerial merry-go-round.

But, with just a week to go until the new Premier League season kicks off, Silva is still Everton’s head coach. And, alongside director of football Marcel Brands, he has turned around a seemingly sinking ship to build a squad capable of smashing through the glass ceiling and breaking into the top six.

Influential enforcer Idrissa Gana Gueye might have realised his Parisian dream but the Senegal star has been replaced quickly and effectively. According to the BBC, Mainz’s Jean-Philippe Gbamin is on the verge of swapping the Bundesliga for Merseyside.

A midfield of Gbamin, Andre Gomes and Fabian Delph certainly looks good on paper. A mix of class and combativeness, when you add Gylfi Sigurdsson into the mix Everton look chock-full of star quality in the centre of the park.

Meanwhile, Lucas Digne, Richarlison, Seamus Coleman and even the erratic Jordan Pickford are some of their best in the Premier League in their respective decisions. And, with a deal for Juventus wonderkid Moise Kean expected to be signed, sealed and delivered over the weekend, Everton could soon have the prolific goalscorer they’ve needed since the heady days of Romelu Lukaku.

In fact, there’s only one position where Everton are looking a little vulnerable; centre-half.

Although bringing Kurt Zouma back from Chelsea for a second loan spell would solve that problem. The Sun claims that the Toffees have held talks in recent days.

Arsenal, Manchester United and Chelsea watch out; Everton mean business and now they are putting together a squad capable of realising their lofty ambitions.
