Are Crystal Palace expecting Cabaye exit with QPR’s Luongo targeted?

Premier League survival hopefuls Crystal Palace want to keep Yohan Cabaye at Selhurst Park but are looking at QPR and Celta Vigo for replacements.

Crystal Palace want to tie Yohan Cabaye down to a new contract before he leaves Selhurst Park on a free at the end of this season.

Manager Roy Hodgson admitted last week, as reported by the Croyden Advertiser, that the 32-year-old Frenchman was in negotiations with Palace’s sporting director Dougie Freedman about extending his three-year stay with the London club.

But it remains to be seen how well these talks are progressing. Because, from the outside looking in, it seems Crystal Palace are putting together a list of players who could potentially replace Cabaye in central midfield.

The Sun claimed on Thursday that the Eagles are keen to rival Leicester and Swansea City for Danish international Daniel Wass. Hodgson is a huge admirer of the 28-year-old free-kick specialist, who has one year left on his contract at La Liga side Celta Vigo and could be available for as little as £4 million.

And, just a few hours later, Australian publication The World Game broke the news that Palace are keen to make a summer move for QPR’s Socceroos play-maker Massimo Luongo, who is understood to be a long-time target for the Eagles.

Luongo is a midfielder very much cut from the same cloth as Cabaye, blessed with the ability to control the tempo from his position at the base of midfield or create chances via intelligent through balls in a more attacking role.

Is Cabaye set to leave this summer? It seems Palace are preparing for every eventuality.
