Primeira Liga champions FC Porto reportedly want Olivier Ntcham – and Scottish Premiership giants Celtic have made an immediate decision.
It has been a very negative week for Celtic Football Club.
In the space of three days, The Hoops lost 1-0 to Hearts in a game that will surely give Rangers and Aberdeen hope of ending their domination of the domestic game before going down 2-1 to AEK Athens in Greece.
Celtic’s Champions League journey is over before it began. And this has all occurred while Dedryck Boyata seemingly tries to claw his way out of the club.
So the decision to tell Olivier Ntcham that he is not for sale at any price is exactly the kind of hard-ball stance the club is right to make after a difficult couple of days.
According to the Daily Record, Porto want to take advantage of Celtic’s Champions League failure by nabbing their £4.5 million midfielder and the Frenchman has already been informed of interest from the Primeira Liga champions.
Ntcham has been arguably Celtic’s best player in the opening weeks of 2017/18 so losing him now would be a massive blow and would surely impact Brendan Rodgers’ hopes of matching the success of his first two seasons.
Thankfully, however, Celtic are refusing to consider letting the 22-year-old go before the window shuts. Because selling Ntcham now is the last thing they should be doing after two very disappointing defeats both at home and abroad.
