Celtic reportedly want John McGinn from Scottish Premiership rivals Hibernian but a number of clubs from England have been linked, too.
If Celtic can just get through the next week and a half then John McGinn could well be playing his football in the green and white hoops next season.
The Scottish Premiership champions are certainly running a risk with their approach to landing the 23-year-old international. According to the Daily Record, Celtic have made three bids but are unwilling to raise their offer past £2 million.
It is reported that Hibernian want £4 million for their star man, but Celtic will allegedly wait until January now before attempting to sign him on a pre-contract agreement, given that McGinn only has a year left on his contract.
This is certainly a risk, however, given a number of clubs from below the border have been linked and are in a position to offer more than the £2 million Celtic have reportedly put on the table.
But the likes of Bournemouth, West Ham and Brighton, who have all been linked with McGinn this summer, have either identified other targets or already brought in new midfielders. As it stands, Celtic are the only club being realistically linked with the former St Mirren starlet.
So it seems that Celtic’s attempts to land McGinn on a free in the New Year have a good chance of success. Although Brendan Rodgers’ side will not be home and dry until the English transfer window shuts on August 9.
