Rangers’ hopes of luring Greg Docherty to Ibrox from Scottish Premiership rivals Hamilton are hanging in the balance with Cardiff City ready to big bid.

Rangers may have started the bidding for Hamilton midfielder Greg Docherty, but it is far from certain that the 21-year-old will be playing his football at Ibrox next month.
As reported by the Daily Record, Rangers had a derisory offer of around £300,000 thrown out by Hamilton, who value Docherty at least twice as high. The long-serving academy graduate, who was outstanding as the Accies beat Rangers 2-0 in December, is also on the radar of Preston North End and Swansea City.

But perhaps Cardiff provide the biggest threat to Rangers’ hopes of luring the youngster to the blue half of Glasgow this month.
Because the Sun (January 14th, page 59) reports that Bluebirds manager Neil Warnock is a big fan of Docherty and is willing to pay £1 million to lure him to South Wales.

With Rangers not exactly rolling in disposable cash right now, it seems unlikely that they would be able to compete if Cardiff made an opening offer worth £700,000 more than the bid put on the table by the Ibrox giants.
And with Hamilton seemingly valuing Docherty at around the £600,000 mark, they may find it difficult to see off Cardiff this month. Every player has their price, after all, and it appears Warnock is willing to pay over the odds to get his man.
