Hatem Abd Elhamed and ex-Leicester City defender Danny Simpson are reportedly heading to Scottish Premiership champions Celtic.
It feels like an awfully long time since Anthony Ralston made his breakthrough at Celtic, marking Neymar in the Champions League and attracting interest from Premier League clubs left, right and centre.
The 20-year-old defender has gone from the rising star of Parkhead to a forgotten man. He played just five games for The Hoops last season and it’s telling that Ralston was left on the bench for both legs of Celtic’s Champions League qualifying tie against Sarajevo.
Neil Lennon instead chose to play 6ft 6ins centre-back Kristoffer Ajer on the right hand side of his defence.
And with Celtic making moves to bring in not one but two new right-backs, as reported by the Scottish Sun, Ralston would be lucky to even have a place in the matchday squad in the months to come.
The Premiership champions have agreed a £1.6 million deal with Hapoel Be’er Sheva to sign Israel international Hatem Abd Elhamed while Danny Simpson, recently released by Leicester City and a 2016 Premier League champion, has been invited to Parkhead for a trial.
So Ralston will be third choice at best. Fourth, if Lennon sees Ajer as a long-term option at full-back.
Surely he must be considering his future now. Because it could not be clearer that the Bellshill-born defender will have to look elsewhere if he wants to get his career back on track.
Champions League nights against Paris Saint-Germain could hardly be further away.
