Sunderland’s coveted starlet Morten Spencer has joined Championship Leeds United despite interest from Premier League champions Manchester City.
After months of speculation, Morten Spencer has finally bid farewell to Sunderland.
But instead of joining Middlesbrough or Manchester City, the coveted teenager has signed a contract with the team who only recently celebrated winning the Professional Development League North Title.
Leeds United appear to have pulled off a real coup landing one of the most promising young talents anywhere in England.
And Spencer will be in good company at Elland Road, joining the likes of Ryan Edmondson and Jack Clarke at a club that only recently provided a platform for players like Lewis Cook, Ronaldo Vieira and Charlie Taylor.
Spencer’s mother Heidi told TV2 earlier this year that Middlesbrough were interested while she had reservations about allowing her son to join Manchester City.
Pep Guardiola’s side have the swankiest academy in England but first-team football at the Etihad is hard to come by.
Just ask Jadon Sancho.
At Leeds, however, Spencer will be given a chance if he can prove his worth. And he will be backed by a vociferous home support who love nothing more than to see a fresh-faced youngster rise through the ranks.
