The Preston North End striker has been reportedly lined up for a £1.5m bid – but Aston Villa cannot afford to stand idly by.

After three years attempting to force his way into the first team resulted in little more than the odd cameo appearance, Callum Robinson was released by Aston Villa in the summer without as much as a second thought, as reported by the Daily Mail.
Yet, after less than a season at his new permanent employers, Preston North End, the speedy striker is reportedly on the radar on a number of Villa’s Championship rivals after netting eight goals for Simon Grayson’s side.
Meanwhile, Aston Villa have scored just over a goal a game on average despite spending more than £40 million on strikers in 2016/17 alone. And, to put it in perspective, Robinson has scored more times this season than Ross McCormack has managed at both Villa and Nottingham Forest combined.
Not bad for a free transfer. Yet, The Sun (26/03, page 63) claim that Preston could make a very quick profit on their 22-year-old forward. Fulham, who may well decide against taking up their option to sign loanee Chris Martin on a permanent deal after he attempted to engineer a return to Derby County, are reportedly ready to make a £1.5 million bid.

The Cottagers have hardly struggled for goals this season, ranking as the league’s second most prolific side, and if they miss out on promotion to the Premier League this season they will surely be one of the main challengers alongside Aston Villa in 2017/18.
Therefore, news that Fulham are leading the race for Robinson should convince Villa to give their former youth star another chance.
Versatile enough to play in any of the forward positions, Robinson would add both options and end product to Villa’s attack – something that has been lacking throughout most of the season.
