Speaking on his YouTube channel, Arsenal journalist Charles Watts has claimed that the Gunners are very open to selling Lucas Torreira this summer.
The Uruguayan has made no secret of his desire to join Boca Juniors in order to be closer to home after the tragic passing of his mother, and it seems as though Arsenal aren’t going to stand in his way.
“Torreira has just been a bit of a bit-part player this season, which is something he wouldn’t have expected when he went over there, he would have expected to play and play well. Arsenal will have certainly been hoping that he’d play and play well, because that would have raised his value,” Watts said.
“Now these comments have put Arsenal in a difficult situation, it’s going to be interesting to see how they’re going to handle this situation. On one hand, they like Torreira, they’ll want to do all they can to facilitate a move away so he’s happy. They’re not against selling Lucas, they would have sold him over the summer if they could, but they couldn’t make that happen, and they’ll be very open to selling him this summer.”
This is the right thing to do, not only from a footballing sense, but ethically as well.
A return to South America is what Torreira feels he needs right now, and you always have to put the person before the player in these situations.
Sadly, it’s probably not going to be the best outcome for Arsenal financially – it’s rare that you see South American sides breaking the bank, but it’s what’s best for the player, and that’s what matters most in this case.
